No Darb Al Saai QND events this year

اليوم الوطني ٢٠٢٠

The Organising Committee of the Qatar National Day (QND) celebrations has announced that the Darb Al Saai QND activities will not be held this year in view of the current circumstances brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Darb Al Saai events will be held next year, the committee said in a statement on Tuesday.

The committee stressed that the decision not to hold the 2020 Darb Al Saai event was part of its keenness to ensure the health and safety of all.

Instead, various programmes, seminars and contests will be broadcast through the Doha 360 website, which will be done in a distinguished way commensurate with the status and importance of Qatar National Day.

Besides, the Al Messila horse race will be held in co-operation with the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club, in addition to shooting events organised jointly with the Qatar Shooting and Archery Association. Also, the National Day competition for falcons will be held in co-operation with the Qatari Society of Al Gannas.

The statement noted that the Darb Al Saai activities for 2021 will come in a “new shape reflecting the vision of the Organising Committee in enhancing solidarity, unity and pride in the national identity of Qatar, and stressing the values of the committee, which include participation, inspiration, creativity and transparency”.

The committee appreciated the role of all institutions, organisations and companies that have supported the Qatar National Day activities and festivities over the past years. It noted that these entities have been keen to share with the people of Qatar the celebration of such an important national occasion, through efforts that were in line with their corporate social responsibility. They actively participated in further establishing the Qatari national identity, the statement added.

Accordingly, the Organising Committee gives such participants and supporters special attention throughout its activities, on its website, social media and on Doha 360 to promote them and give them the due publicity.

The committee said it is “inspired by the images and traditions from the country’s past, linking them to the present to introduce the new generation to the glorious history of their ancestors and their hard work, and how they used to live and overcome the challenges”.
